Sony Pictures Entertainment announced on September 21 that Infinity Castle is now the highest-grossing anime film worldwide, taking the mantle from Mugen Train . Not only that, but Infinity Castle also surpassed Pokémon: The First Movie ’s 26-year reign as the biggest anime film in the United States. According to Sony Pictures Entertainment, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle finished its second weekend in U.S. theaters with an estimated US$17.3 million, earning US$4.585 million on Friday, US$7.3 million on Saturday and an estimated $5.415 million on Sunday. The movie now has a total domestic gross of US$104.730 million, passing Pokémon: The First Movie 's US$85.7 million domestic total . Infinity Castle has also made over US$555 million worldwide, according to Sony Pictures Entertainment, making it the highest-grossing anime and Japanese film ever globally. This includes a total of 34.01 billion yen (US$229.85 million) in Japan, and US$269 million in Crunchyroll/Sony markets around the world. Other Sony Pictures Entertainment reported territories include openings of US$8.2 million in German-speaking and US$8.6 million in French-speaking markets. The film has also brought in reported totals of US$15.1 million in Mexico, US$12.4 million in Hong Kong, US$8.1 million in India, US$7.5 million in the United Kingdom, US$7.3 million in Indonesia, US$7.2 million in Brazil, US$7 million in Thailand, US$6.7 million in Malaysia, US$6.4 million in the Philippines and US$6 million in Spain for Crunchyroll/Sony markets. Besides the U.K., Demon Slayer is the number one anime film of all-time in each of the countries.
