The next Creepypasta story to make the leap to the big screen is The Third Parent, with Crispin Glover (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Back to the Future) starring as the evil Tommy Taffy.
“I purposefully did not read the online stories that it’s based on, because I knew that it was best for me not to be thinking about too many things. I could just tell in the situation it was best to stick with the script, but I could see that there were interesting aspects to the writing and why it has a fair amount of popularity online,” Glover tells Bloody Disgusting.
Originating on Reddit’s NoSleep subreddit from author Elias Witherow, The Third Parent saga now spans several short stories and a novel. The film adaptation is written and directed by David Michaels.
“I probably shouldn’t say too much about it, because I’ve not seen the film. They may have just locked it, in fact, and I’m supposed to do some sound for it,” Glover continues. “It was an interesting character. I don’t usually say that characters are complex, but I did find there was something complex about the character in an interesting way.”
Set amidst a 4th of July celebration, The Third Parent sees an disturbing figure named Tommy Taffy disguise himself as a human to infiltrate a suburban neighborhood and impose authoritarian rule over an unsuspecting family.
“It started shooting in February, and my mind was completely somewhere else when I suddenly had to go to Budapest and be working on it,” says Glover. “Then I really started concentrating on the script, and I realized not only was it a good character, but there were complexities to it.”
He adds, “There was something having to do with a prosthetic, which was wasn’t fitted to me. We didn’t end up using it. It wasn’t that the people did something wrong; there just wasn’t the proper amount of time to have gone through how a prosthetic would work, so there’s something about the look of the character that I will be curious to see what they’re doing.”
Walters Media Group, the recently launched shingle of producer Gary Michael Walters (Drive, Whiplash), is behind The Third Parent, which also stars Rob Lowe.
“I’m being told it’s supposed to have a good release sometime next year, but you never know until things are happening what’s going on,” Glover chuckles.
