Chihayafuru Live-Action Sequel Drama Reveals Main Visual, Trailer

The official website for Chihayafuru -Meguri-, a new original live-action drama sequel to Yuki Suetsugu's karuta-themed manga Chihayafuru , released a main visual above introducing the main cast members. The site also confirms that the drama series is set to premiere in Japan on July 9, 2025 . Ami Touma (Kokoro Anzai in Lonely Castle in the Mirror ) is cast as the new protagonist, Meguru Aizawa, while Mone Kamishiraishi (Mitsuha Miyamizu in Your Name. ) reprises her role as Kanade Oe from the previous three-part live-action film series from 2016 to 2018. Additionally, the drama's official X (formerly Twitter) is now streaming a main trailer. The main cast members include Ami Touma, Nanoha Hara, Jun Saito, Daisuke Fujiwara, Souma Yamatoki, Riku Onishi, Rina Arashi, Aito Sakamoto, Kaito Takamura, Yuki Tachibana, Raizo Ishikawa, Kotoka Seto, Yutaro Takahashi, Yoshiteru Fujieda, Issei Otomo, Takumi Urushiyama, and Mone Kamishiraishi. The story centers on Meguru Aizawa, a second-year student at Umezono High School and a ghost member of the competitive karuta club, which has few members and is in danger of being discontinued. Kamishiraishi's character Kanade Oe is now a part-time teacher at the school and the advisor of the club. The original Chihayafuru manga series ran in Kodansha's monthly manga magazine BE LOVE from December 2007 to August 2022, printing over 29 million copies with a total of 50 tankobon volumes. The TV anime adaptation aired for three seasons with 74 episodes between October 2011 to March 2020.
