Tabletop RPG fans in the mood for some Survival Horror should keep an eye on Shrike Studio’s upcoming dungeon crawler You Will Die In This Place, which has just launched its fundraising campaign over on Gamefound. Needless to say, the campaign is already a success, but that shouldn’t stop you if nihilistic TTRPGs about exile, decay, and the inevitability of death are your thing.
Described as ‘House of Leaves for TTRPGs,’ the game is set in the crumbling Vaulted Kingdom and the endless Abyssal Labyrinth, players take on the role of exiles struggling to survive. The goal of You Will Die In This Place is not to save the world, but instead to find some kind of purpose, meaning, or peace of mind within this cruel universe.
The game is a reconstruction of an unfinished indie game, cobbled together from notes, design docs, and personal reflections. The result is a story of creativity, communication, identity and coming to terms with loss. Each class in the game uses different game mechanics to interact with the world, with each having a unique character sheet to support this.
As part of the crowdfunding campaign, there are obviously various tiers of support. They range from a standard colour hardback of the completed rulebook of various quantities that will be released in January 2026. Addons include printable STL files of miniatures based on characters and monsters from the game, as well as “You Will Die In This Tape”, a spin-off game enclosed in a cassette tape that includes cards and three die for 1-3 players.
