Gamers looking for another quick fix of horror gaming should keep an eye out for developer Tarba Paul Cornel and Galactic Crows’ found-footage horror puzzle game Netbreak. Clocking in at around two hours of playtime, Netbreak blends immersive puzzles, forensic investigation, and unrelenting threats to players this Halloween on Steam.
Inspired by films such as V/H/S, Megan is Missing and Unfriended, Netbreak centres around a mysterious USB drive that lands on your desk. Curiosity quickly becomes a curse, as you must browse the dark web for six hidden hashes, decrypt them, and infiltrate the vault of a clandestine snuff marketplace known as Killbyte.
To do so, you’ll need to study clips for clues, and use grounded tools like a crypto wallet, a drone delivered router, and CCTV anomaly reporting while four hired hands of Killbyte – The Hitman, SWAT, Dan, and Maria – push back.
As you dig deeper, these four antagonists begin to hunt, mislead, and manipulate you in real time. Every action becomes part of their twisted broadcast. Luckily, each follow strict rules you can learn and counter. However, ignore them at your own peril.
Adding to the immersion is the incorporation of live-action actors blended with in-engine scenes, featuring performances by Mihail Stefan Bostoaca, Sam Oakley, Jace Felix, María Lourdes Rojas Gutiérrez, and Darryl Marks.
