What Are the Soul Eater Arcs? Prologues Arc (Episodes 1 – 3) This arc introduces us to the world of Soul Eater and our characters. When a human soul falls to vice and becomes corrupted, there’s a chance it could transform into a demon egg, which would hatch a being of utter madness and destruction. To prevent this from ever happening, Death himself set up Death Weapon Meister Academy. DWMA’s most elite attendees, dubbed The Especially Advantaged Talent class, are introduced one team at a time over the course of the first three episodes. One person on each team is a Demon Weapon, someone capable of turning into one particular kind of weapon. The other half of the team is a Meister, someone who can wield a Demon Weapon. Together, these teams go out to hunt corrupted souls as well as witches, evil beings that plague the world and bring only pain and destruction in their wake. Remedial Lessons Arc (Episodes 4 – 6) After both teams fail to properly collect souls as they’re supposed to, Death decides to give them a remedial lesson. Maka, Soul, Black✩Star, and Tsubaki are tasked with investigating a former teacher at DWMA. Sid Barrett had once been a normal teacher. Now, he’s a zombie. But who resurrected him? And for what purpose? In the meantime, Death the Kid starts his first day at Death Weapon Meister Academy. Of course his demon weapons, Elizabeth and Patricia Thompson, start classes as well. Demon Sword Arc (Episodes 7 – 9) Welcome to the beginning of the series’ main plot! Maka and Soul encounter Crona, a being known as the Demon Swordsman. Ragnarok, Crona’s weapon, is unlike any Maka and Soul have ever seen. So unready are Maka and Soul that Stein needs to come and rescue the pair. But do they get a break? Certainly not! After all, the witch Medusa seems just a little too interested in weapons and meisters… Amid the aftermath of Soul and Maka’s ill-fated encounter, Death the Kid and Black✩Star go on an adventure of their own. And they seek out nothing less than the most powerful weapon in the world: Excalibur. RELATED: A Beginner's Guide to Soul Eater Uncanny Sword Arc (Episodes 10 – 12) Tsubaki and Black✩Star are trying to hunt down an evil Demon Weapon named Masamune. The catch? Masamune is Tsubaki’s older brother, as well as the reason she enrolled in DWMA in the first place. Meanwhile, Medusa’s enemies aren’t only those at DWMA. Her fellow witches have learned the truth about her plans, and let’s just say they’re none too happy with her, either. Medusa is a liability they can’t have, and drastic measures have to be taken. The Experiment Arc (Episodes 13 – 14) Maka and Soul face off against an immortal werewolf. But they’re having trouble syncing their wavelengths. Will the pair be OK? Also, the students have to prepare for the Ultimate Written Exam. Some even say that those who get the highest grade are destined to become Death Scythes one day… RELATED: A Beginner’s Guide to Fire Force Black Dragon Arc (Episodes 15 – 17) Souls seem to be vanishing without a trace. Why? Well, Death the Kid and the Thompson sisters are going to find out. This isn’t the only mystery that needs to be solved, though. Sid and Stein have their suspicions about Medusa and begin investigating the possibility of her being a witch. Her keen interest in Maka and Soul warrants a little digging into as well… A Fight to the Death at the Big Bash Arc (Episodes 18 – 24) Medusa’s plans finally come together as she and her allies begin executing their dark plans. Death is trapped, as are the DWMA meisters and weapons. Only Stein, Spirit, and the members of C Group find themselves free. But are they alone enough to thwart Medusa’s plans to resurrect the infamous Kishin, Asura? Trial Enrollment Arc (Episodes 25 – 27) Death considers Crona and Ragnarok’s position in all of this. The conclusion he comes to? Well, the pair should enroll at Death Weapon Meister Academy, of course! Will they become powerful new allies? Or will Death’s decision only lead to more chaos? Either way, Crona joins Maka and Soul in their latest investigation. Reports say an enormous earth golem has been on the attack. Are DWMA’s newest students up to the task? The Bodyguard Arc (Episode 28) Sid’s on a secret mission into Arachne’s research facility. The whole thing winds up in jeopardy when Tsubaki and Black✩Star storm the place. Black✩Star is out for revenge, hoping to get back at their enemies on Maka’s behalf. And Mifune is only too happy to oblige DWMA’s most hot-headed student. RELATED: All Fire Force Story Arcs in Order Reunion Express Arc (Episodes 29 – 32) Stein is determined to whip both the Meisters and their Weapons into shape before the inevitable showdown with Arachne. The only problem is that she’s not exactly the only witch on the scene. Meanwhile, Death the Kid and the Thompson sisters need to hunt down a magic tool that’s kept a train running continuously for the last century. But learning who made the device stops him in his tracks, and Death the Kid is left with more questions than answers. “BREW” The Tempest Arc (Episodes 33 – 37) The battle has finally arrived. DWMA’s staff and students team up to battle the forces of Arachnophobia amid a frozen wasteland. Both forces are targeting one thing: BREW, Eibon’s greatest creation. Who will win? Only time will tell… Internal Investigation Arc (Episodes 38 – 40) Death the Kid has tons of questions and no answers. Case and point, the Magic Tools they keep hunting for. Operation Capture Baba Yaga Castle Arc (Episodes 41 – 47) Death Weapon Meister Academy goes up against Arachnaphobia in an all-out war. Asura needs to be captured, but who will be the ones to do so? As if that isn’t enough, Stein’s madness is ever-worsening. Something must be done to help him. Maka, Soul, Marie, and Crona set out to do so, regardless of the state of the battlefield. But will they be able to save him? Meanwhile, Death the Kid only grows more suspicious of his father's true motives, and even Black✩Star is starting to demand answers. RELATED: Your Halloween Anime Watchlist, From Kooky to Spooky Kishin Battle Arc (Episodes 48 – 51) Arachnophobia may be crumbling, but Asura is still as strong as ever. The ultimate battle of good versus evil ensues as Death and Asura meet on the battlefield. Asura is finally captured, but that doesn't exactly mean the battle has been won. Death himself has to fight Asura, but will Death be enough to defeat such a foe? What is Soul Eater Not? Soul Eater Not! is a spin-off by Atsushi Ohkubo. Taking place in the Soul Eater universe, the story focuses on Tsugumi Harudori, Meme Tatane and Anya Hepburn as they attend the Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA). While Maka and her friends were part of the Especially Advantaged Talent (EAT) class, these three new characters are part of the Normally Overcome Target (NOT) class, giving us a more lighthearted, almost slice-of-life like story. That said, since characters from Soul Eater make appearances in Soul Eater Not! , you would probably enjoy this story more after watching the main one play out. And there you have it, all of the arcs in Soul Eater ! Readers of the manga may notice some differences, especially in later arcs. The manga and anime ran simultaneously, meaning the two versions differ, ultimately resulting in an anime-only ending. And you know what? That’s a perfect excuse to find a comfy spot on the couch and binge-watch all 51 episodes!
