The official X (formerly Twitter) account for the upcoming A NEW DAWN anime film announced today that the Yoshitoshi Shinomiya-directed and written film has been postponed to 2026. The film was initially set to be released in 2025. No reason was given for the delay. An updated trailer for the film with the 2026 date was released on the Asmik Ace YouTube channel. Yoshitoshi Shinomiya – an artist best known for their background illustrations in Garden of Words and Your Name. as well as visuals for Pokémon films – writes and directs the film based on their own original work. Utsushita of Minakata Laboratory draws the character designs, Akiko Majima provides the art direction and Shuta Hasunuma composes the music. The film was selected as one of five films in various stages of production from around the world for the “Animation Day” Annecy Animation Showcase at the 77th Cannes International Film Festival in May 2024. The festival's official website introduces the synopsis of A NEW DAWN as such: The Obinata Fireworks Shop factory is getting prepared for an administrative action for confiscation tomorrow. It has been six years since Keitaro has been holed up in a closed-down factory creating fireworks by himself, chasing after an illusion of his father who vanished. It is a story about three young people who overcome the extreme weather conditions, disasters and environmental problems imposed on them and establish their own identities.
