The official website for the upcoming stage play adaptation of The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe (known as Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo in Japan) anime film released key visual featuring the two lead cast members — Hiroki Suzuki as Kitaro's father and Ryota Murai as Mizuki. Following the advance sales, general sales of the tickets began on November 16. However, tickets for the originally scheduled performances sold out in an instant, prompting the addition of four more performances. Then, the film's R15+ (No one under 15 years of age allowed to see) version, subtitled Shinsei-ban ("Genuine edition"), followed Japan on October 4, 2024.
