Written and directed by Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Creed), Sinners was shot on IMAX 70mm film with optimized symphonic sound design and immersive visuals.
Michael B. Jordan stars in a dual role as twin brothers Smoke and Stack. Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, they return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.
Hailee Steinfeld (Bumblebee), Jack O’Connell (Eden Lake), Wunmi Mosaku (“Loki”), Jayme Lawson (The Batman), Omar Benson Miller (“CSI: Miami”), and Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods) round out the cast.
The film opened at #1 at the box office back in April to the tune of $48 million. It went on to earn $367 million globally, making it one of the highest grossing horror movies of all time.
Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “The careful curation of character-building pays off dividends. When the horror kicks into high gear, the deaths come fast and furious. And the deaths devastate. Coogler’s first foray into horror shows a keen understanding that the key ingredient to ensuring the scares land and the suspense leaves you on edge is making you care about the characters.”
Sinners is expected to be a major competitor in next year’s Oscar race.
