With the latest trailer for HideWorks’ upcoming isometric overhead shooter Liminal Point, the numerous nods to classic survival horror titles that have inspired the game couldn’t be more obvious. But hey, as the saying goes, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Set on a desolate, fog-covered island shrouded in mystery, Liminal Point centres around Lyra, a once-rising rock star who receives a voicemail regarding the disappearance of her bandmate, Mira. The voicemail directs Lyra to Ashen Point, where the disturbing truth of Mira’s disappearance and the secrets of the island are revealed.
Lyra soon discovers that the seemingly abandoned locales are anything but, as twisted creatures that defy understanding roam the island. Along the way, she will encounter cryptic messages, and a haunting past that refuses to stay buried. As she delves deeper step, the world around her becomes more surreal, challenging her grip on reality and forcing her to confront the depths of her own psyche.
As one would expect, you’ll be faced with several hallmarks of the genre, including limited resources, tense encounters, and an atmosphere “dripping with dread.” You’ll need to manage your limited inventory space carefully, and rely on the map to plan your next moves as you navigate the island and its various locations. It’s complimented by an appropriately-chilling soundtrack, and ambient audio that aims to immerse players in the tension of the island.
Liminal Point comes to PC via Steam and GOG.com, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series in 2026.
