“The Haunted Season,” a horror anthology series in the tradition of telling ghost stories for Christmas, launched in 2023 with To Fire You Come at Last.
After taking off last year, Shudder will stream second installment, The Occupant of the Room, on December 1.
The half-hour short is written and directed by Kier-La Janisse (Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched: A History of Folk Horror), based on Algernon Blackwood‘s 1909 short story of the same name.
It follows a school teacher whose late-night arrival at a hotel in the Alps without a reservation leaves him with no option but to accept the room of a missing hotel guest — leading to a sleepless night full of strange and uncanny occurrences.
Don McKellar (eXistenZ, Crimes of the Future) stars alongside Ben Petrie (BlackBerry) and Delphine Roussel (ABCs of Death 2).
Janisse’s Spectacular Optical produces with Liane Cunje of Ruby Mannequin Films and Shannon Hanmer (In a Violent Nature). Yer Dead Productions’ Rob Cotterill (Infinity Pool) and Severin Films’ David Gregory (Color Out of Space) and Carl Daft executive produce.
The Occupant of the Room premiered at Sitges last month, followed by screenings at Toronto After Dark and Brooklyn Horror Fest, among others.
