One year after Netflix brought Wednesday Addams to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the streaming service is now dragging the annual holiday parade into the Upside Down.
As we learned last month, “Stranger Things” will make its Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade debut to celebrate the show’s fifth and final season! One of the show’s iconic Demogorgons will create chaos along the Manhattan parade route with the new Upside Down Invasion: Stranger Things float, and Variety has shared a first look at the epic float this week.
“The Duffer brothers have been on it the whole time,” Macy’s creative director Brendan Kennedy tells Variety. “This is such a cool departure from saying, ‘Hey, 3D print me something from a film.’ What we’re doing here is creating a world. This is fully experiential.”
“There’s a containment device meant to contain an eight and a half foot tall Demogorgon puppet,” Kennedy previews. “It’s the [Hawkins National Laboratory] come to life.”
TODAY previews the “Stranger Things” float in the video you’ll find below!
NBC will air the 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade from 8:30am to 12:00pm ET on Thanksgiving Day, November 27.
Other floats you can expect to see this year include the first ever Labubu float from Pop Mart, with KPop Demon Hunters also confirmed to be making an appearance during the parade.
But back to “Stranger Things” for a second…
“Stranger Things” concludes on Netflix in three parts this holiday season: four episodes on November 26, three episodes on December 25, and the series finale on December 31.
