Here’s to hoping Chris Elliott comes armed with his strong hand for Scary Movie 6; the returning actor and Scary Movie veteran Cheri Oteri are among the latest cast additions joining the upcoming installment.
Elliott, who memorably played Hell House caretaker Hanson in Scary Movie 2, and Oteri, who played Gail Hailstorm in the original film, are joined by Damon Wayans Jr. (New Girl), Kim Wayans (In Living Color), and Heidi Gardner, per Deadline.
Character details remain under wraps at this time, so it’s unclear whether Elliott and Oteri will be reprising their memorable Scary Movie roles. Especially considering that Elliott also appeared as Ezekiel in Scary Movie 4.
Scary Movie 6 is currently in production, with previously announced legacy cast members including Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Regina Hall, Anna Faris, Lochlyn Munro, Dave Sheridan, and Jon Abrahams. Franchise newcomers Olivia Rose Keegan, Savannah Lee Nassif, Cameron Scott Roberts, Sydney Park, Gregg Wayans, Ruby Snowber, and Benny Zielke also star.
Michael Tiddes is directing the franchise’s upcoming sixth installment, releasing on June 12, 2026, with Rick Alvarez writing and producing alongside the Wayans brothers.
The first Scary Movie was released in 2000, just four years after Wes Craven reinvigorated the horror genre with his meta slasher masterpiece, Scream. The film parodied horror movies of the time, including Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Blair Witch Project, and the horror-comedy spoof scared up $278 million at the worldwide box office.
The smash hit box office success of that first Scary Movie paved the way for an entire franchise of horror movie spoofs, with five of them in total released between 2000 and 2013.
Only the first two Scary Movie installments were created by the Wayans Brothers; however, Scary Movie 6 marks their return to the franchise for the first time since 2001.
Casting certainly suggests that Scary Movie 6 may be gearing up to lampoon the legacy sequel, but time will tell.
