Australian revenge thriller The Horseman is coming to Blu-ray with a never-before-seen director’s cut on February 4, 2026 exclusively from Australia’s Umbrella Entertainment.
Writer-director Steven Kastrissios has recut, recolored, remixed, and restored his brutal 2008 film from a 4K transfer. Learn all about the process in our exclusive featurette below.
“The outcome of the restoration was totally unexpected, and seeing just how massive the visual upgrade was going to be was an incredible revelation,” Kastrissios tells Bloody Disgusting. “When you see the before and after comparisons, the results are self-evidently night and day.”
Kastrissios continues, “Usually, we’re using modern tools to remove film dirt and jitter but as we shot digitally, it was more about pulling out the dynamic range, detail, sharpness and color, and also removing a blizzard of video noise. So it’s more accurate to describe this effort as a rescue mission rather than a restoration.”
