Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ Tops Netflix Charts with 29.1 Million Views in 3 Days

Guillermo del Toro‘s Frankenstein reached the #1 spot on Netflix‘s English film list with 29.1 million views in its first three days.

That makes it the streamer’s fifth biggest film debut of 2025, behind Back in Action, Happy Gilmore 2, The Old Guard 2, and Havoc.

The adaptation of Mary Shelley‘s genre-defining 1818 novel landed in Netflix’s Top 10 in 93 countries, claiming the top spot in 72.

In addition to streaming, Frankenstein is still in select theaters. “Please consult your local listings and choose your watch/rewatch preference,” del Toro advises.

In the film, brilliant but egotistical scientist Victor Frankenstein brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.

Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, Ralph Ineson, and Charles Dance star.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “There’s no question that Frankenstein is absolutely breathtaking, with imagery and set pieces that instantly embed themselves in your memory. It showcases del Toro’s strength as a filmmaker, creating immersive worlds that enhance what he does best: championing monsters and their tragic humanity instead of using them to scare us.”
