There’s a beautiful, isolated house in Joshua Tree for young adults looking to get away. The only problem? The Carpenter is stalking the grounds. And he’s taking no prisoners.
Killer Rental from directors Ben Hausdorff and Jonathan Kadin is streaming exclusively on Screambox beginning November 18, and you can slash into the trailer below.
In Screambox’s Killer Rental, “Two couples arrive one night and find a mysterious video tape of the last group of friends who vacationed here… a diverse bunch looking to party under the desert sun and stars. But secrets soon emerge and relationships fracture, all under the watch of hidden cameras recording their every move. When one of them mysteriously disappears, the rest are left stranded, ultimately discovering that a deranged killer stalks. Meet The Carpenter… horror’s newest icon, with a unique set of tools and a twisted plan of his own.”
Killer Rental aims to provide “authenticity, fun, creepiness and a ton of scares.”
Filmmakers Ben Hausdorff and Jonathan Kadin preview, “Coming out of the pandemic all everyone wanted to do was get away and ‘escape’ the nightmare of the world. Vacation houses were thriving but there were, and still are, a lot of creepy news stories about hidden cameras spying on unknowing renters. That felt like a fresh new take on a horror film.”
“The actors did a fantastic job of letting loose in this beautiful Joshua Tree, environment, partying and playing pranks on each other. You really feel like a part of the friend group which makes you invested in their dynamics and ultimately their survival,” the filmmakers tease. “Experiencing the twists and turns of their relationships and scares through hidden cameras adds creepiness and tension that explodes into some real scary moments. Juxtaposed with some natural desert cinematography and it all adds up to an entertaining ride!”
“We had very successful screenings at two horror festivals, Chicago and Austin, with some great local reviews landing online, and we think Screambox subscribers will love this new take on a slasher film,” Hausdorff and Kadin add. “We think they’ll appreciate the practical kills we executed, the story’s plot twists, the characters and humor. But we’re especially excited for them to experience The Carpenter and the unique spin we put on some iconic horror tropes.”
