Steven Spielberg Producing New ‘Gremlins’ Movie for November 2027 Release!

After many years of false starts, Warner Bros. has officially announced this morning that the Gremlins franchise is returning to the big screen. And they’ve already set a release date!

Gizmo will return to theaters November 19, 2027.

Steven Spielberg will executive produce the upcoming third installment in the Gremlins franchise. Chris Columbus, the original movie’s writer, will produce and direct.

While we haven’t seen a new Gremlins movie since director Joe Dante’s two classics back in 1984 and 1990, the beloved franchise more recently returned to the screen with a two-season animated prequel series on HBO Max. Stay tuned for more on Gremlins 3 as we learn it.

Talk of a third Gremlins movie has come and gone several times over the years, and you can read all about that lengthy history over on the franchise’s official Wikipedia page.

The franchise centers on the adorable alien species known as the Mogwai, which comes armed with three very specific rules. Break them and the fuzzy furball turns into the malevolently mischievous creatures known as Gremlins. The Mogwai hero of the movies is of course Gizmo (voiced by Howie Mandel!), while the most iconic villain is the chainsaw-wielding Stripe.

And then there’s human characters Billy Peltzer and Kate Beringer, played by Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates in Dante’s movies. No word on whether or not the new script includes them.
