Those itching for a road trip through a nightmare version of 1980s Americana won’t have to wait long. Indie studio Reuben Games have announced a November 5 release date for their Lovecraftian survival horror title Dead Static Drive for Steam and the Xbox Series via Xbox Game Pass.
Described as “Grand Theft Cthulhu,” Dead Static Drive is a stylized survival-horror experience where players take on the role of Hearst, a wayward traveller searching for their missing parents—and answers—in a world collapsing under the weight of something ancient and wrong. Trust is your most valuable resource, and you’ll need to rely on others to survive. Evade the police. Protect those around you. And help stop a violent, paranoid man whose delusions are putting everyone at risk—including his own children.
At its core a survival game, Dead Static Drive sees the player needing to scavenge, fight, sneak, and explore. Heavily influenced by the work of weird fiction authors T. E. D. Klein, Gene Wolfe, & Ramsey Campbell, filmmaker David Lynch, and photographer William Eggleston, Dead Static Drive hopes to invoke images of an America now lost, where with the right car and enough gas, anything felt possible.
