You Mean Netflix Lied?! ‘Stranger Things’ Final Episode Coming to Theaters on New Year’s Eve!

One week after Netflix assured us that they wouldn’t be listening to fan demand and bringing the finale of “Stranger Things” to the big screen, well, they’ve announced quite the opposite.

To celebrate the conclusion of the record-breaking series, Netflix has announced today that it will bring the FINAL EPISODE of “Stranger Things 5” to select theaters nationwide!

The screenings will take place in over 350 theaters in the U.S. and Canada starting on December 31, 2025 at 5:00pm PT, and run through January 1, 2026.

The Duffer Brothers said in a statement, “We’re beyond excited that fans will have the chance to experience the final episode of Stranger Things in theaters — it’s something we’ve dreamed about for years, and we’re so grateful to Ted, Bela, and everyone at Netflix for making it happen. Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect — dare we say bitchin’ — way to celebrate the end of this adventure.”

“More information on how to attend these fan events, as well as specific theater locations, will be made available later this year,” Netflix promises. Stay tuned for more updates.

The first four episodes of the eight episode final season of the hit Netflix series will be premiering on the streaming service on November 26. The next three episodes will follow oDecember 25, with the series finale arriving on Netflix on New Year’s Eve, December 31

According to the Duffer brothers, the final episode will run “around two hours”!

We recently learned that there will be an 18-month time jump from Season 4 to Season 5, with Season 4 ending with the Upside Down spilling over into the town of Hawkins.

In the final season, “The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”

The Duffers are leaving Netflix behind to set up shop at Paramount beginning next year, a decision largely driven by their desire to make movies that will play up on the big screen.
