Netflix’s 2023 animated MonsterVerse show “Skull Island,” which continued with the four-issue comic series Return to Skull Island earlier this year, will expand further in the pages of Escape from Skull Island.
Return to Skull Island writer Simon Furman (Transformers), illustrator Christopher Jones (Doctor Who: Once Upon a Time Lord), and colorist Charlie Kirchoff are back at the helm.
Escape from Skull Island #1 will be published on January 28, 2026 from Legendary and Titan Comics.
Trapped on Skull Island, a desperate band of survivors struggles against the land’s relentless horrors while an ancient threat rises from below. But as chaos unfolds, flashbacks reveal Kong’s turbulent youth: his battles, losses, and the primal instincts that shaped him into the island’s sovereign.
Now, as hordes of monstrous beasts close in on the stranded humans, the most dangerous enemy of all regains strength to once more challenge Kong’s throne.
Escape from Skull Island #1 will have seven variant covers:
- Cover A: Maria Wolf
- Cover B: Christopher Jones
- Cover C: Sunghan Yune
- Cover D: Serg Acuna
- Cover E: Color Blank Sketch
- Cover F: Maria Wolf (Foil Trade)
- Cover G: Sunghan Yune (Virgin)
If you haven’t read Return to Skull Island yet, the series is being collected in a graphic novel set for release on February 3, 2026.
Developed by Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You, Love and Monsters), “Skull Island” is set in 1993 — 20 years after the events of Kong: Skull Island and 21 years prior to Godzilla in the MonsterVerse canon.
