‘Black Phone 2’ Off to Strong Start at the Box Office With $26.5 Million Opening

Blumhouse has been in desperate need of a win at the box office here in 2025, and it looks like they’ve finally found that victory with Scott Derrickson’s sequel, Black Phone 2.

Starring Ethan Hawke as the back-from-the-dead villain known as The Grabber, Black Phone 2 topped the domestic box office over the weekend with $26.5 million in 3,411 theaters.

Worldwide, Black Phone 2 has dialed up $42 million at this time.

For the sake of comparison, Derrickson’s The Black Phone debuted with $23.6 million at the U.S. box office back in 2021, and went on to make a whopping $161.4 million worldwide.

Whether or not the new sequel can match that number remains to be seen, but it’s off to a great start with an opening weekend that’s a few million dollars higher than its predecessor.

Black Phone 2 currently has the sixth highest U.S. opening of 2025…

  • The Conjuring: Last Rites – $84 million
  • Final Destination Bloodlines – $51.6 million
  • Sinners – $48 million
  • Weapons – $43.5 million
  • 28 Years Later – $30 million
  • Black Phone 2 – $26.5 million

The reported production budget for Black Phone 2 was $30 million, so the film should have no problem becoming profitable in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for box office updates.

In Black Phone 2, “Four-time Academy Award® nominee Ethan Hawke returns to the most sinister role of his career as The Grabber seeks vengeance on Finn (Mason Thames) from beyond the grave by menacing Finn’s younger sister, Gwen (Madeleine McGraw).”

Scott Derrickson returned to direct from a script he co-wrote with C. Robert CargillJoe Hill, author of the short story on which the 2021 film was based, executive produces.
