With its mix of wholesome vibes, heartwarming moments and comedy, SPY x FAMILY is an absolute delight of an anime series. Based on the manga by Tatsuya Endo, the story revolves around a spy, an assassin, a telepath and a seer dog becoming more of a family by, well, pretending to be a family. With two full seasons of anime, a movie, and the highly anticipated SPY x FAMILY Season 3, there’s plenty going on with the Forger family. Here we meet secret agent Twilight, a master spy who works for the Westalis organization, WISE. In order to keep the peace between Westalis and the bordering country of Ostania, Twilight takes on Operation Strix, a mission where he’ll have to pose as a family man in order to get closer to Donovan Desmond, the leader of the National Unity Party of Ostania. Now taking on the name Loid Forger, Loid ends up adopting a young girl named Anya and “marrying” a woman named Yor Briar. Unbeknownst to Loid, Yor is the deadly assassin, Thorn Princess, who works for the mysterious Garden. Meanwhile, Anya is a telepath who actually knows the truth behind her new parents. Thrilled by the adventure, Anya decides to do her part in keeping the world safe, which has… interesting results throughout the rest of the SPY x FAMILY story arcs. Admissions Interview (Episodes 3 – 5) The Forger family, now consisting of Loid Forger, Yor Forger, and Anya Forger, set out to get to know each other and prepare for the difficult entrance exam for Eden College. Anya getting into the prestigious school is a top priority for the new family since Donovan Desmond’s son, Damian, is a student there. It’ll take true ELEGANCE to meet the demands of the interviewers in the Admissions Interview arc. Is Anya up for the task? Eden Beginnings (Episodes 6 – 7) As to be expected with the Eden Beginnings arc, this is the start of Anya’s school days. Getting into Eden College was already hard enough, but now Anya has to try and make a good impression on her teachers and, more importantly, Damian Desmond. While Anya does make a new friend named Becky Blackbell, can she survive trying to gain the favor of someone as smug as Damian? Will her great friendship scheme succeed? … heh. RELATED: 10 Best Anya Forger Moments in SPY x FAMILY Season 1 Secret Police (Episodes 8 – 9) The Secret Police arc continues to highlight the pressure of Operation Strix as Loid comes face-to-face with Yuri Briar, Yor’s little brother. Meeting Yuri’s standards proves to be impossible when it comes to winning the heart of his sister. Even worse? Yuri works for the Secret Police, an organization that is extremely hostile toward spies. Stella Star (Episodes 10 – 12) Anya got off to a rocky start by earning a Tonitrus Bolt as soon as she started school. This serves as a negative mark against her at Eden College since eight bolts lead to immediate expulsion. However, there’s a chance for Anya to earn a Stella Star, a mark that serves as a symbol of excellence at the school. All she has to do is… win at dodgeball? RELATED: Best Pink-Haired Anime Characters to Brighten Your Day Doggy Crisis (Episodes 13 – 15) After the Stella Star arc, Anya’s promised a family dog, which should be fine… except for it being the Doggy Crisis arc. On the way to find a new pup, each Forger ends up crossing paths with a terrorist group. Led by Keith Kepler, the group plans on sending bomber dogs to assassinate Minister Brantz in an attempt to disrupt Westalis. Luckily for the minister and the rest of the city, Loid, Yor, Anya and a big, floofy dog named Bond are on the case! Midterm Exams (Episodes 16 – 19) SPY x FAMILY Episode 16 starts a series of shorter stories that chronicle the daily lives of some of the main characters. This includes moments like Yor finally cooking a proper meal, a love story for Franky Franklin, and the introduction of Twilight’s greatest rival, Daybreak (source needed for this statement). Along the way, we see Anya and the students of Eden College preparing for midterms, which can lead to another Stella Star being given out. RELATED: Can You Cook Better Than Yor Forger? Campbelldon Tennis (Episodes 20 – 24) Along with a couple more shorter stories, the main plot for the Campbelldon Tennis arc introduces us to the competitive world of underground tennis thanks to a new mission Loid takes on. Working with him on the mission is fellow WISE agent Fiona Frost. Twilight mentored Fiona (otherwise known as Nightfall) and she’s had major heart eyes for the spy ever since, so much so that she thinks she should be playing the part of his wife, not Yor. Imperial Scholars Mixer (Episodes 24 – 25) SPY x FAMILY Season 1 ends with the Imperial Scholars Mixer arc. Here, Loid takes a major step toward his target, Donovan Desmond. What will happen when their paths cross for the first time? The meeting between Donovan and Loid still hangs in the air, emphasizing the importance of Operation Strix and the parts each member of the Forger family plays in it. Cruise Adventure (Episodes 29 – 35) Arguably, the Cruise Adventure arc is the most important arc of SPY x FAMILY Season 2 as Yor Forger is put in the spotlight, giving us a chance to see her life as an assassin. After receiving a new mission from The Shopkeeper (who we get to meet for the first time), Yor is tasked with protecting Olka Gretcher and her son. This sends her on the cruise ship Princess Lorelei, where she also reflects on her mission and what she wants for herself in life. Of course, it wouldn’t be SPY x FAMILY without the rest of the family getting involved in this great cruise adventure. Both Loid and Anya are also on board as Loid takes on his hardest mission of all: acting like a normal dad on vacation. WISE (Episodes 36 – 37) SPY x FAMILY Season 2 ends with Yor, Loid and Anya returning home from their vacation, but there’s no time for rest. The WISE arc rounds out the story arcs of this season, ranging from Becky’s crush on Loid to the spy taking the family dog on a far too adventurous walk. All in all, there’s never a dull moment for the Forger family. SPY x FAMILY CODE: White RELATED: What’s Your Role in the SPY x FAMILY Forger Family Trip? Serving as an original SPY x FAMILY story, the Forger’s first theatrical release is a fun time for current fans of the series or new ones who just want to check out a wholesome family movie. Here, Loid feels the pressure of delivering results for Operation Strix. A cooking competition at Eden College presents the perfect opportunity since the winner can potentially earn a Stella Star. All Loid has to do is take his family on a wintery vacation, learn more about the favorite dish of the competition judge, and avoid the inevitable hijinks that occur whenever he, Yor, Anya and Bond are in the same space.
