The third installment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan‘s true crime anthology series, “Monster: The Ed Gein Story” starring Charlie Hunnam is now streaming on Netflix.

From Psycho to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to The Silence of the Lambs, Ed Gein’s macabre legacy gave birth to fictional monsters born in his image and ignited a cultural obsession with the criminally deviant. Ed Gein didn’t just influence a genre — he became the blueprint for modern horror.

Here’s the plot synopsis for the series: “In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein lived quietly on a decaying farm – hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare. Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein’s perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades.”

Charlie Hunnam stars as Gein alongside Laurie Metcalf as his mother, Suzanna Son as his only friend, and Tom Hollander as Psycho director Alfred Hitchcock.

Brennan wrote the eight-episode series and shared directing duties with Max Winkler.

“With collapsing roads and no electricity, the family must rely on their courage, resilience, and love for one another to survive both the inferno and the snarling threat outdoors.”

Mila Harris (No Exit), Katherine McNamara (“Shadowhunters”), Brittany Allen (“Dexter: Original Sin”), Keir O’Donnell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), and Norbert Leo Butz (The Exorcist: Believer) round out the cast of the killer coyotes horror movie.

And on that note… Luke Sparke, whose Primitive War just released at home today, is already back with the new underground horror movie Scurry, also now available on VOD today!

Scurry centers on monstrous, genetically altered spiders, and according to the press materials, Sparke and his team shot the film “in real-time using a single continuous take.”

“When an unthinkable attack devastates their city, two strangers find themselves trapped beneath the chaos, wounded and disoriented. As they fight to survive in a narrowing underground tunnel, their injuries worsen, and their chances of escape dwindle.

“And something relentless and hungry is lurking in the darkness.”

Don’t forget to flush: there’s a bloodthirsty creature prowling toilets in the horror-comedy Scared Shitless. Starring Steven Ogg (“The Walking Dead”), the film is now available on VOD.

In horror-comedy Scared Shitless, “Don, a blue-collar plumber, and Sonny, his germaphobic son, are forced to take care of one another after the death of Sonny’s mom. To help Sonny overcome his germaphobia, Don drags him out on a routine house-call where they encounter a plumber’s worst nightmare… a vicious killer creature that’s swimming through the pipes, killing the building’s tenants in an increasingly grisly fashion.”

Daniel Doheny (Alex Strangelove, The Package, Syfy’s Day of the Dead), Chelsea Clark (Degrassi: Next Class, Tokens, Ginny & Georgia, The Protector, Life with Luca), and Mark McKinney (The Kids in the Hall) also star.

She Loved Blossoms More

Three grieving brothers go to untold lengths to alter their reality in She Loved Blossoms More, now in select theaters and on VOD from Dark Sky Films and Yellow Veil Pictures.

In this surreal blend of science fiction, body horror, and dark comedy, “Three brothers build an unusual time machine in order to bring their long-dead mother back to life. When their delusional father comes into the picture, the experiments go awry, and they descend into a psychedelic hellscape where the past and present fuse in a comedic yet disturbing exploration of grief.”

The Greek-France co-production is directed by Yannis Veslemes (Norway) from a script he co-wrote with Dimitris Emmanouilidis. Panos Papadopoulos, Julio Giorgos Katsis, Aris Balis, and Dominique Pinon star in She Loved Blossoms More.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review for Bloody Disgusting, ”Veslemes forgoes conventional narratives in favor of a tactile mood piece that leans into the psychotronic. The debut filmmaker delivers a collision of DIY techniques that transforms She Loved Blossoms More into an arresting, vibrant realm of practical effects-driven creatures and ruined experiments.”

And finally, director Max Minghella’s Shell was released by Paramount in select theaters and on Digital beginning today. This one looks tailor made for fans of The Substance.

In the film, “Desperate to reclaim her career, once-beloved actress Samantha Lake (Elisabeth Moss) is drawn into the glamorous world of wellness mogul Zoe Shannon (Kate Hudson) —only to uncover a monstrous truth beneath its flawless surface.”

Meagan Navarro wrote in her festival review for Bloody Disgusting, “Much like Coralie Fargeat’s The SubstanceShell explores the hells of aging in Hollywood with vibrant style and biting wit. Yet they couldn’t be further removed in just about every way. While Shell centers around an aging actor who embarks on a risky beauty regimen in a desperate bid to retain relevancy, Minghella opts to use it as a vehicle to craft an escapist love letter to ’90s cinema.”

The Dark Castle Logo in the opening credits heralds a zany, entertaining salute to the ’90s,” Meagan’s 3-star review continued, “an era where films went big and swung wide.”

Arian Moayed, Este Haim, Elizabeth Berkley and Kaia Gerber also star. The dark comedy was penned by Jack Stanley, the scribe behind last year’s thriller The Passenger.
