Add Embers to the list of developers getting a jump on next month’s Steam Next Fest. The devs have released a demo for their upcoming co-op survival horror game Storebound, allowing players to experience the first playable portion of the game, either solo or with up to two friends, as ordinary shoppers navigate an endless store and attempt to escape before the employees catch them.
In conjunction with the demo release, a brand-new trailer was unveiled as part of Indie Fan Fest, offering players a glimpse into the mall’s eerie environment, the cooperative gameplay mechanics, and the game’s frantic tone. Embers encourages those who jump into the demo to leave feedback on the game’s Discord channel to help shape the game ahead of its eventual release.
Inspired by SCP-3008 and The Backrooms, Storebound sees 1-3 players trapped in an endless store. By day, lights flicker across deserted halls, inviting exploration. By night, employees roam the aisles looking to “assist” you. Silence, teamwork, and quick thinking are your only tools for survival. You’ll need to work together at all costs before the employees catch you.
Plan your next move using proximity voice chat and walkie-talkies. Piece together environmental clues and decode cryptic notes to find your next destination. Split up and look for whatever may help you escape. Along the way, search the mall for tools and items. But be wary of the employees. Do you cling to the shadows, letting madness creep in, or stay in the light where they’re already watching you?
