Stephen King Says ‘Black Phone 2’ Is Better Than the First

Not only does our own Meagan Navarro think Black Phone 2surpasses its predecessor in just about every way,” but so too does Stephen King.

“It’s not as good as the first one,” King tweeted. “IT’S BETTER.”

King is, of course, the father of Joe Hill, who wrote the short story on which The Black Phone is based.

Ethan Hawke returns as The Grabber on October 17 via Blumhouse and Universal.

As Finn, now 17, struggles with life after his captivity, his headstrong 15-year-old sister, Gwen, begins receiving calls in her dreams from the black phone and seeing disturbing visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp known as Alpine Lake.

Determined to solve the mystery and end the torment for both her and her brother, Gwen persuades Finn to visit the camp during a winter storm. There, she uncovers a shattering intersection between The Grabber and her own family’s history. Together, she and Finn must confront a killer who has grown more powerful in death and more significant to them than either could imagine.

Scott Derrickson is back in the director’s chair from a script he co-wrote with frequent collaborator C. Robert Cargill.

Madeleine McGraw, Mason Thames, Miguel Mora, and Jeremy Davies also reprise their roles from the first film, joined by Demián Bichir (The Nun), Arianna Rivas (A Working Man), Maev Beaty (Beau is Afraid), and Graham Abbey (“Under the Banner of Heaven”).

Black Phone 2 is rated “R” for strong violent content, gore, teen drug use, and language.
