Greg Nicotero cites the zombie homages as a highlight of working on “The Walking Dead,” and the “Daryl Dixon” spin-off is adding another major horror icon to the list.
Bloody Disgusting was on hand at Silver Scream Con over the weekend, where Nicotero revealed that “Daryl Dixon” Season 3 will feature a Jason Voorhees zombie.
Nicotero notably worked on Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, but his “Daryl Dixon” tribute is based on Jason’s appearance from Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter from his old mentor and friend Tom Savini.
“The Walking Dead” previously featured nods to the works of George A. Romero, Lucio Fulci‘s Zombie, and Freddy Krueger, among others.
The third season of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” premiered on AMC on September 7 and airs Sundays through October 19, so keep an eye out for our boy Jason.
Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride star as Daryl and Carol, continuing their journey home to the ones they love. As they struggle to find their way back, the path takes them farther astray, leading them through distant lands with ever-changing and unfamiliar conditions as they witness the various effects of the Walker apocalypse.
The cast also includes Candela Saitta, Gonzalo Bouza, Hada Nieto, Yassmine Othman, Cuco Usín, Stephen Merchant, Hugo Arbués, and Greta Fernández along with new series regulars Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada, and Alexandra Masangkay.
David Zabel (“ER”) severs as showrunner, executive producing alongside Nicotero, Reedus, McBride, Scott M. Gimple, Angela Kang, Brian Bockrath, Jason Richman, Dan Percival, Steve Squillante, Silvia Aráez, and Jesús de la Vega.
