‘The Housemaid’ – First Images of Sydney Sweeney & Amanda Seyfried in Paul Feig’s Thriller

Bestselling novel The Housemaid is getting a feature film adaptation from director Paul Feig (A Simple Favor, Ghostbusters), releasing in theaters on December 19, 2025.

PEOPLE shares the first images from the upcoming suspense thriller this morning, giving us our first look at stars Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar.

“The film captures everything fans loved about the book — secrets, tension and twists,” Seyfried teases. “We can’t wait for audiences to immerse themselves in the experience.”

The actress is referring to Freida McFadden’s novel, which Feig’s film brings to the screen. Feig himself calls the film a “faithful interpretation… but with a good number of added surprises along the way.” The filmmaker adds, “The Housemaid is pure entertainment – a sexy and surprising rollercoaster ride of a movie that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. This movie is the kind of insane fun that you’ll want to watch over and over this holiday season.”

In the film, “Millie (Sydney Sweeney) is a struggling young woman who is relieved to get a fresh start as a housemaid to Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew (Brandon Sklenar), a wealthy couple. She soon learns that the family’s secrets are far more dangerous than her own.”

Rebecca Sonnenshine (“The Boys”) adapted McFadden’s psychological thriller novel. Published in 2022, the novel was an international bestseller. You can grab a copy on Amazon today.
