For more than half a century, manga artist Mitsuru Adachi has been a major name in manga, especially sports manga. Modern fans may be familiar with newer anime adaptations of his works, including Cross Game and MIX MEISEI STORY . But to celebrate this momentous occasion, the Re:Re:Re:TUNE YouTube channel is going back to one of Adachi's earliest major works: Miyuki . Adachi's career truly began in 1969, when he began working as an assistant to 750 Rider creator Isami Ishii. Though Miyuki premiered in 1980, more than a decade after Adachi's career began, it is notable for being the first of his manga to receive an anime adaptation. The series follows high schooler Masato and his two crushes — both of whom are named Miyuki, and one of whom turns out to be his estranged stepsister. J-pop group H2O performed several theme songs for the 1983 series, including the first ending, "Omoide ga Ippai." In addition to the anime adaptation, the series also received a live-action film adaptation in late 1983 and a television drama in 1986. At present, neither the original manga nor any of its adaptations are licensed in English. Source: Re:Re:Re:TUNE YouTube Channel
