Now it has become the 12th top-grossing Japanese anime film of 2025, behind The Rose of Versailles with 500 million yen (3.42 million USD). Even after reaching 200 million yen (1.37 million USD) on 100,000 admissions on July 4, the film continues to maintain strong audience attendance. As previously announced , Crunchyroll has acquired the worldwide theatrical rights (excluding Asia) for the film from Kyoto Animation. The movie will release in Japanese with English subtitles in North America. Tatsuya Ishihara directs the film at animation studio Kyoto Animation. Yuka Yamada provides the script and Miku Kadowaki provides the character designs and serves as chief animation director. Crunchyroll streams both previous seasons of the Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon MaidO TV anime, and describes the movie: Miss Kobayashi, Tohru, Kanna, and Iruru's peaceful lives are shattered when Kanna’s father, Kamun Kamui, leader of the Chaos Forces, arrives and forces her to return to the Dragon World to fix a past mistake.
