Thea Sofie Loch Næss (The Ugly Stepsister) is starring in the psychological thriller CRCL9, Deadline has learned.
Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Chris Weitz — whose credits range from About a Boy and Twilight: New Moon to Rogue One and “Murderbot” — is executive producing via Depth of Field.
Inspired by real events, Loch Næss plays an American woman studying in Europe who has been targeted by an online stalking game. As the situation becomes increasingly dangerous, she starts playing the game herself in an attempt to outwit her stalker.
The film recently wrapped production, with M. Axilleas directing from a script he co-wrote with Erik Van Wyck,.
“It’s often said that 90% of filmmaking is casting, and I experienced that axiom working with Thea Sofie Loch Næss on CRCL9,” said Axilleas. “The story tracks the descent of a young woman into existential darkness, and it all rested on Thea’s shoulders. She committed fully and made a daring leap into the role.”
Axilleas and Van Wyck are producing alongside John Paterakis. Executive producers include Weitz, Andrew Miano, and Dan Balgoyen from Depth of Field as well as Lilette Botassi of Greece’s Inkas Films.
