Developer INTENSE has brought their co-op horror exploration game UNDERWARD to the PlayStation 5. Available via the PlayStation Store, UNDERWARD originally launch earlier this year on Steam.
Designed for 1 to 4 players, you take on the role of investigators tasked by their organization to locate and retrieve various test subjects sealed in bio-capsules in a procedurally-generated abandoned (or so you thought) underground hospital. By successfully transporting these capsules to elevators and meeting collection quotas, players can advance deeper into the facility. Carrying the capsule creates a lot of noise, attracting enemies, so stay vigilant. Although a single investigator can’t handle the heavy capsule alone, you and your teammates can work to move it faster than the enemies can catch up. Don’t mess up, as one misstep can end the game for everyone.
Of course, you could play UNDERWARD solo, but be prepared for the ultra-high-difficulty mode as a result, where getting caught means instant game over. Without the ability to perform chained carries as you would in co-op play, you’ll have to carefully transport your cargo while constantly checking for an enemy ambush.
As you might expect, the hospital is filled with dangerous traps and creatures. If you hide quietly, the latter might pass without noticing you. However, there’s no avoiding the roaming Arachne Nurse monster, which is so big that it’s capable of blocking entire hallways. Its limbs are fortified with salvaged debris, making it resistant to frontal attacks. To defeat this monster, players will need to coordinate strategies to flank and strike from behind.
