The official website for the Cannes Film Festival 2025 has confirmed that the 4K restoration version of the classic 1985 OVA Angel's Egg ( Tenshi no Tamago in Japan) will screen in its "Cinéma de la Plage" section on May 20. "Cinema de la Plage" means "Cinema on the beach," and a giant screen has been set up on the sandy beach near the main venue, where anyone can watch the masterpieces shown every night at 9:30 p.m. free of charge. This ccreening will be the 4K version's world premiere. The 71-minute OVA released from Tokuma Shoten in Japan on December 15, 1985, and also received a limited theatrical run. The anime's 4K restoration version is produced to commemorate its 40th anniversary, and GKIDS will screen the 4K version in North American theaters in 2025.
