Zeikin de Katta Hon (translated as “Books Bought with Tax Money” in English), a comedy manga about a rough-edged delinquent getting a part-time job at a public library, is being adapted into a TV anime and a live-action TV drama. Hiroyuki Muramatsu and Tomoki Sakanashi direct the TV drama, with scripts by Riko Sakaguchi and music by Kei Yoshikawa. Daiken Okudaira stars in the TV drama, which will broadcast on the NHK network beginning in summer 2026. At the time of this reporting, no details on the TV anime (such as the cast, staff or release date) have yet been revealed. A celebratory image for the announcements (below) was also released. Kodansha serializes the original Zeiken de Katta Hon manga in their Weekly Young Magazine publication, with 18 volumes published in Japan to date. Zuion writes and Kei Keiyama illustrates the series. The story follows Kiichi Ishidaira, a hot-headed high school delinquent who discovers that he has a 10 year overdue book after visiting the public library for the first time since elementary school. Soon Kiichi begins working part time at the library, and in the process he meets many colorful staff members and discovers how much work goes into helping people to foster a life-long love of learning.
