To You in the Beyond Anime Film Premieres in Japan This October

Akiko Abe's coming-of-age novel To You in the Beyond is being adapted into a theatrical anime film that will screen in Japanese theaters beginning on October 9, 2026. The announcement first arrived with a fall release window as part of Shochiku's upcoming film lineup. Now, along with the opening date, we have the film's teaser trailer, teaser art, celebratory artwork by the film's character designer / chief animation director and information about the film's staff. According to the press release, international release details are "to be announced." To You in the Beyond Teaser Trailer To You in the Beyond novel cover illustration Celebratory artwork by Hechima Shueisha publishes the original To You in the Beyond novel under their Shueisha Orange Bunko imprint. Junichi Wada ( HIGH CARD ) directs the film at animation studio TMS ENTERTAINMENT, with a screenplay by Sayaka Kuwamura ( Josee, the Tiger and the Fish ) and character designs and chief animation direction by Hechima ( Cosmic Princess Kaguya! ). Tota performs the insert song for the film, which is entitled “Balsam”. Shochiku distributes the film in Japan. The story of To You in the Beyond is described as follows: The story begins with the fateful encounter between Kazuki Tsukigase, a high school boy hiding a secret, and Nanao, a mysterious girl found collapsed on a beach—unfolding into a gentle and beautiful tale of connection.
