Akiko Abe's coming-of-age novel To You in the Beyond is being adapted into a theatrical anime film that will screen in Japanese theaters beginning on October 9, 2026. The announcement first arrived with a fall release window as part of Shochiku's upcoming film lineup. Now, along with the opening date, we have the film's teaser trailer, teaser art, celebratory artwork by the film's character designer / chief animation director and information about the film's staff. According to the press release, international release details are "to be announced." Junichi Wada ( HIGH CARD ) directs the film at animation studio TMS ENTERTAINMENT, with a screenplay by Sayaka Kuwamura ( Josee, the Tiger and the Fish ) and character designs and chief animation direction by Hechima ( Cosmic Princess Kaguya! ). Tota performs the insert song for the film, which is entitled “Balsam”. Shochiku distributes the film in Japan.
