‘Dead Lover’ Trailer Digs Up a Madcap, Stylized ‘Frankenstein’ Riff

Love can conquer death in the trailer for Dead Lover, described as “a hilarious, delirious, beautiful, horny, and wholly original Frankensteinian tale.”

Shot on 16mm film, the stylized Canadian horror comedy comes to life in select theaters on March 20 via Cartuna x DWECK.

Before that, it will screen in “Stink-O-Vision” at Nitehawk Cinema at Prospect Park and Williamsburg in Brooklyn on February 9 and at the IFC Center in New York City on March 19.

In the film, a lonely gravedigger who stinks of corpses finally meets her dream man, but their whirlwind affair is cut short when he tragically drowns at sea. Grief-stricken, she goes to morbid lengths to resurrect him through madcap scientific experiments, resulting in grave consequences and unlikely love.

Grace Glowicki (Strawberry Mansion) and Ben Petrie (BlackBerry) star with Leah Doz and Lowen Morrow.

Glowicki directs from a script she co-wrote with Petrie. They also produce alongside Yona Strauss.

Executive producers include Rhianon Jones (Shiva Baby), Tristan Scott-Behrends, Matthew Miller, Lexi Tannenholtz, and Olivia Niuewland.

Dead Lover premiered at Sundance last year and went on to play the Toronto International Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, and SXSW, where it won the Neon Auteur Award for Uncompromising Visionary.
