KenIchi: The Mightiest Disciple Sequel Manga Announced

More than a decade after the series concluded, author Shun Matsuena announced on his X (formerly Twitter) account today that KenIchi: The Mightiest Disciple will return on March 25 in the form of a sequel manga, subtitled "Tatsujin-hen" ("Masters Arc"), on Shogakukan's Sunday Webry platform. Ryozanpaku Shijo Saikyo no Deshi that ran from October 1999 to February 2022, was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine from April 2002 to September 2014. The series was collected into 61 volumes and had a reported circulation of 12 million copies in 2012. Hajime Kamegaki directed and TMS Entertainment produced the 50-episode TV anime adaptation that aired from October 2006 to September 2007, which was followed by the "The Attack of Darkness" 11-episode OVA series in 2012-2014, directed by Hiroshi Ishiodori at studio Brain's Base. Crunchyroll describes the anime: Kenichi, who has been bullied but wishes to be strong, joins Karate club upon entering senior high school. However, he gets picked on by the other pupils in the club everyday. One day, Kenichi meets Miu, a beautiful girl who has just transferred from another high school. On Miu's suggestion, Kenichi decides to be a disciple of Ryozanpaku, a mysterious training establishment. Kenichi could not imagine the brutal training he receives from the martial arts masters there… However, now Kenichi is marked by Ragnarok, a street gang group, and he is constantly defending himself from them.
