The official X (formerly Twitter) for the Doraemon anime film series announced today that Japanese actor Airi Taira joins the upcoming film Doraemon the Movie: Nobita and the New Castle of the Undersea Devil as promotional ambassador and guest voice actor. Taira, now 41, is known for her portrayal of the main heroine Kanna Endo in the live-action film adaptation series based on Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys manga in 2008-2009. For her first anime character role, she plays an underwater soldier who pursues Doraemon, Nobita and his friends. Taira shared the following comment on her first anime role: When my manager contacted me, I was stunned—"What!? Me!?"—and time seemed to stop! I was so happy that I couldn't believe it was real. My kids were there too, so I told them, "I've been cast in the Doraemon film!" They cheered, "Mom's in Doraemon? That's awesome!" My second son sleeps in a way that reminds me of Nobita, so I like to think the kids brought this role to me (laugh). When I told my husband (professional footballer Yuto Nagatomo), he said, "Huh? What role? Doraemon? Nobita?" and I just thought, “He really is a natural airhead" (laugh). It felt like I was stepping into Doraemon's world myself—such a precious experience! Please see it in theaters!
