The official website for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Yuto Suzuki's Sakamoto Days manga series revealed the cast visuals of Lu Shaotang and Heisuke Mashimo today. The film is set to release in Japan on April 29, 2026 . Mayuu Yokota (Hazuki Shinohara in the Gazing at the Star Next Door live-action film) plays Lu Shaotang, a tai chi practitioner working at Sakamoto Shoten. Lu Shaotang cast visual Comment from Mayuu Yokota: I am Mayuu Yokota, and I am playing Lu Shaotang. To me, the role is an emotionally rich and incredibly sincere former mafia girl who naturally makes you smile just by watching her. I've always loved action films and wanted to take on the challenge, so when I received the offer for the "Sakamoto Days" film, I was genuinely thrilled and determined to give it my all. At the same time, I felt both anxiety and a sense of responsibility about bringing it to live-action. And since it was my first time doing action scenes, every day brought new challenges as I practiced. But thanks to so many people, I believe I was able to complete filming as Lu Shaotang without any regrets. I'm absolutely thrilled to be part of the Team Fukuda for this film!!! I believe it's turned out to be a fun, heartwarming, and incredibly cool action-packed film. Thank you!!!! Junki Tozuka (Shunpei Nara in Kamen Rider Wizard ) is cast as Heisuke Mashimo, a skilled sniper who operates alongside his partner, the bird Piisuke. Heisuke Mashimo cast visual Comment from Junki Tozuka: I am Junki Tozuka, and I will be appearing in the film "Sakamoto Days" as the role of Heisuke Mashimo. This film is packed with so many elements and technical prowess, from the high level of character development and the action-packed fight scenes, to the comedic moments, the camaraderie among friends, and the portrayal of family love—I believe it has become a visually compelling work that only a live-action adaptation could achieve. The visuals are just so cool. And I've never seen Ren Meguro like that before. Heisuke is a freelance assassin and skilled sniper who lives alongside his partner, the bird Piisuke. He cares deeply for his comrades and is passionate about his bonds, though his straightforwardness can make him a bit of a fool at times. He's an endearing character you can't help but love, and he's my absolute favorite character in the original manga. I feel truly honored to be playing him this time. I usually create fun scenes for Team Fukuda, but this time, unusually, I received a direction that was unprecedented in Team Fukuda's history: “This part doesn't need to be funny.” This work is filled with Fukuda-san's respect for the original manga, his love for each character, and his underlying desire to create something the whole family—from grandma to grandchild—can enjoy together. I hope you all enjoy it. Yuichi Fukuda, best known for his work on the Gintama live-action series, is attached to direct on a screenplay also by himself. Ren Meguro (Japanese male idol group Snow Man member) is cast as the protagonist, Taro Sakamoto. The other main cast members include Fumiya Takahashi (Kamen Rider Zero-One/Aruto Hiden in Kamen Rider Zero-One ) as Shin Asakura, Aya Ueto (Azumi in Ryuhei Kitamura’s Azumi ) as Aoi Sakamoto, and Miyu Yoshimoto as Hana Sakamoto. The original Sakamoto Days manga series is serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since November 2020, with 25 collected volumes in Japan to date. The anime adaptation directed by Masaki Watanabe ( Bartender ) at TMS Entertainment premiered in January 2025, with Netflix streaming the series. A second season of the TV anime was announced in December 2025 . VIZ Media describes the series as such: Time has passed peacefully for Sakamoto since he left the underworld. He’s running a neighborhood store with his lovely wife and child and has gotten a bit…out of shape. But one day a figure from his past pays him a visit with an offer he can’t refuse: return to the assassin world or die!
