While Rebuild of Evangelion served as a firm finale to Hideaki Anno's much-loved series, it looks like there's more new animated Evangelion to come…at least in short form! A new, 13-minute animated short was announced today , set to premiere exclusively at the upcoming 30th anniversary event in Japan in February 2026. Anno serves as supervisor for the new project, as well as planning the short and writing the script. Naoyuki Asano, who served as an animation director for 2021's Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time , will direct the short. Rebuild of Evangelion staff members Kazuya Tsurumaki (co-director), Shinji Higuchi (storyboards) and Kazuki Todoroki (assistant to the general director) are also credited as supervisors. The short is being produced exclusively for the event, and it is unknown at this time whether it will be available in other venues after its premiere. EVANGELION:30+; 30th Anniversary of Evangelion will take place February 21-23, 2026 at Yokohama Arena. Other scheduled events include a new kabuki performance , song performances and a fan market.
