Japan Box Office: Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance Revival Screening Ranks at No.7

The revival screening of Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance – Version 2.22 started in 89 Japanese theaters on December 12 and earned 92,384,500 yen (595,800 USD) on 58,126 admissions in its first three days, ranking seventh in the Japanese box office weekend ranking, according to Animate Times . The Evangelion anime franchise's 30th anniversary project has been holding a special event titled "Monthly Eva EVANGELION 30th MOVIE Fest. 2025-2026," which is hosting revival screenings from October 2025 to February 2026 of the six films in the franchise. Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance – version 2.22 is the fourth entry of the event. As the second installment of the Rebuild of Evangelion film series, the original version of Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance released in Japan in June 2009 and made four billion yen (25.76 million USD) from its original domestic run, becoming the fourth top-grossing Japanese film of the year. At this event, one film is screened each month (two films in October) for a limited period of one week. The first entry, Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth – "DEATH(TRUE)²&REBIRTH" version earned 200 million yen (1.29 million USD) on 120,000 admissions from its one-week run of October 10-16, with the second entry, The End of Evangelion following with 220 million yen (1.42 million USD) on 140,000 admissions on October 24-30, according to Mantan Web . Thanks to the box office success despite the limited number of theaters, the third entry, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone – version 1.11 , also debuted at in seventh place in the weekend ranking of November 14-16 and had its run extended at some theaters. The next fifth entry, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo – Version 3.333 is scheduled to screen from January 9 to 15, 2026. The live-action film adaptation of Wataru Momose's Romantic Killer manga opened in 330 theaters on December 12, earning 106 million yen (683,900 USD) on 760,000 admissions to make a fourth-place debut. The film starring Moka Kamishiraishi also placed second in Filmarks' first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.86/5.0 based on 450 reviews. Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc went down six positions to ninth in its 13th weekend, bringing its 88-day domestic total to 9.62 billion yen (62 million USD), according to Oricon News . Reze Arc now ranks at number 56 in Japan's all-time box office ranking , surpassing the 2015 film Jurassic World with 9.53 billion yen (61.43 million USD) The anime film adaptation of Kazuyoshi Takeda's World War II manga Peleliu: Guernica of Paradise ranked tenth, down four positions from its opening weekend . After making an eighth-place debut last weekend, the live-action movie adaptation of Satoru Nii's WIND BREAKER manga did not appear in the Top 10 ranking in its second weekend. The JUJUTSU KAISEN: Execution anime compilation film also dropped out of the Top 10 in its sixth weekend. While remaining outside the top ten since last weekend, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle film's 150-day cumulative total domestic gross reached 38.53 billion yen (248.7 million USD), according to Oricon News . It is just short of the previous film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train 's 150-day box office revenue of 38.6 billion yen (249 million USD). From its opening day, Infinity Castle 's box office revenue was at a pace surpassing Mugen Train , but slowed five months after its release. To surpass the domestic box office record of 40.75 billion yen (263 million USD) set by Mugen Train , Infinity Castle still needs an additional 2.22 billion yen (14.33 million USD).
