Danny Boyle’s box office hit 28 Years Later is now available on Digital at home, and we’d like to whet your appetite with the first five minutes of the infection sequel this morning.

The infection makes its way to the Scottish Highlands in the chaotic opening sequence of 28 Years Later, introducing a boy named Jimmy and documenting his harrowing experience with both his mother and his father succumbing to the rage virus. If you’ve seen the movie, well, you know that the adult Jimmy is set to be a main character in next year’s sequel to 28 Years Later.

But in the opening sequence of 28 Years Later, he’s just an innocent child whose world is rocked by intense violence. Exclusively watch the opening of Danny Boyle’s sequel below.

The long awaited sequel to 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later puts Danny Boyle back in the director’s chair, with Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Ex Machina, Annihilation) scripting.

You can rent the film on Digital now for $19.99 or purchase it for $24.99.

In 28 Years Later, “It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.”

Alfie Williams, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes star.

The second installment in this new trilogy will release in theaters on January 16, 2026. It’s titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and it’s directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman).
