15 Anime Like Sailor Moon to Unleash Your Inner Magical Girl

The pretty guardian in a sailor suit, Sailor Moon, has had an enormous impact on just about every millennial ever. Naoko Takeuchi’s magical girl series became one of the mainstays for children’s entertainment of the 1990s and set the precedent for just about everything I look for in my action anime today. From gorgeous transformation sequences, flashy attacks, touching character moments, and inspiring teamwork, Sailor Moon was full of the tropes and themes that I enjoy in the magical girl genre to this day. To that end, plenty of anime have been released in the 30-plus years (pause for existential crisis) since Sailor Moon first came out that have filled those niches. From magical girl stories like Tokyo Mew Mew to more symbolic adventures like Revolutionary Girl Utena or Princess Tutu , we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to magical girl anime. If you’re looking for the best anime that capture the same vibes as Sailor Moon , whether it’s a classic shojo adventure or an anime outside the box with the same kind of vibes, check out our recommendations!
